On Being Very Gentle

By Evan Sanders

Often times we think that we've got to put up our own resistance against a front that someone else creates against us. Being a bit argumentative can be regarded a little bit sexy. But actually, there really is only one thing that breaks down walls: being gentle.

We are living in a harsh world. Without doubt are there important acts of bravery, fervour, faith and heroism that run across the brooks of hate - but the reality is those acts of hate themselves truly begin to create a drain on our minds. Our past stops us from living in the present, turns us into pessimistic beings at times , and our built view continues our story till we or somebody else comes in and helps us break out of that cycle. This disbelief about life and humanity can be astonishingly hard and damn near or close to impossible to fight. But that is the point.

You are not supposed to combat it.

You're simply meant to have a soft touch.

We need more people in this world who are strong enough to be gentle.

To love without condition. To give themselves notwithstanding being ungiven to. To give the world their best, day in and day out without any real expectation of return. We need a lot more of those people in this world. As I've found through this journey, life isn't about expecting a return. The times I have felt myself unhappiest were the instances when I had expectations for those around me. Shakespeare himself declared, "Expectation is the root of all heartache." He seemed to have it right. When we are expecting people to do particular things or act certain ways we are going to often be deeply disappointed. Try to not expect. You can only control yourself.

Never let someone else's approach about life negatively impact your own.

Take into account that everyone is going through something or other. It's easy to be hard on people. But I know that is not why I have arrived here. I certainly have been hard on people close to me in the past. But now I know that my only job is to keep to my values and go all through life spreading kindness and light. What other people do is none of my business. Sure some of it "happens" to me, but that makes it even more urgent to keep true to what I'm doing.

You cannot go all through life by keeping clear of having experiences and deep relationships with the people around you. You've got to put your heart on the line and learn. The only way I ever got to this realization is by trying continually. No matter how badly things go, you have got to keep on going. Allow the negatives to make you more bold.

Don't waste time fretting about things that are not for you. Not everybody is going to like your brand. If you set a top quality standard for yourself - call yourself Hermes - not everybody will want to buy that. Don't fret about the people who hate on your brand. Continue your journey in turning into the best person you can presumably be and take aim higher and higher. By the day let your goals get bigger. Always be competing with your potential.

Remember - be very gentle with those around you. Love your heart out. Strength is shown in so many ways.
